Wild soul
If you have already placed an order with us, you must have received at least once a greeting card illustrated by Anette Pirso (@anetteprs), an Estonian illustrator with whom we are collaborating for a few years already…
A friendship was built, and a lot of sharing took place, including the photo of a page from a book of traditional costumes with a breathtaking coat. Within 30 minutes we decided that we should make this design, call it Anette and go to Estonia to photograph it on her!
Many steps followed this decision, until the meeting and discovery of the third Baltic country, very different from the other two, with a rather Nordic atmosphere, and a wild and mysterious touch.
During the preparation of this project, we thought back to an exhibition by the Musée d'Orsay in 2018, “âmes sauvages” (wild souls)... We kept a very strong memory of the atmosphere and discovered the notion of "symbolic art" as well as very little-known Baltic or Baltic-inspired artists, who had been brought together to represent local nature and legends.
We invite you to read the article about the exhibition as well as two paintings which particularly struck us, by the artist Johann Walter, and which enormously influenced this project: l'exposition "Wild Souls: Symbolism in the Baltic States"
