Sisters° from ancient Lands
Voriagh (synonym of Varangian, in Old Norse: Væringjar; Greek: Βάραγγοι, Βαριάγοι) is the name used by the Byzantine Empire and the Eastern Slavs for the Vikings, (víkingar, from Old Norse) traded from their Northern European homelands across central, eastern and western Europe.
The Sisters
Deeply bonded with nature through ancient elements and crafts, Voriagh was founded in 2008 in Paris, by sisters and violinists Olivia & Vivien, and their mother Bruna, sharing a deep passion for embroidery and historical clothing.
The makers
Following strict guidelines in terms of sustainability for material and craft, our small structure relies on the precious know-how of Anju’s workshop in India, and Rita’s workshop in Lithuania. They complete each other by offering high expertise and traditional embroideries.
These workshops are certified by one of the three highest certifications in fashion industry: the BSCI committee, a label based on the most important international Conventions protecting the workers’ rights such as the International Labour Organisation (ILO) Conventions and other important Declarations of the United Nations, the OECD guidelines for multinational enterprises and the UN Global Compact.
The fabric
The close relationship to these two workshops allows us to have full control over every detail from thread to finished item and can ensure full traceability minimizing CO2 emissions by unnecessary transportation and waste.
The raw material is therefore elaborated on site: wool and linen in Lithuania, cotton, and linen blends in India. We avoid synthetic fiber and chose only organic, Oekotex or RWS certified fabric.
To let the makers work at their own pace and ensure ethical working conditions, we produce in small batches and don’t do custom orders. The excellence of our Parisian pattern-making is versatile and smartly engineered. We are very happy to provide advice for fitting and easy alteration hacks.
